Deportation crackdown expected to start in Miami — and these other cities — on Sunday
Immigration agents will target Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, Baltimore, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York City, and San Francisco this weekend, sources from congressional offices and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement told the Miami Herald.
That's a lot of major metropolitan areas. I'm guessing that because they're starting on Sunday (or this was why they decided to start on Sunday), they'll be waiting outside of Latine churches Sunday afternoon. Because they've done it before.
If you are undocumented, consider staying home Sunday. Learn your rights, stay home, and don't answer the door. Know what an official warrant is and what is required for it to be enforceable.
"ICE cannot come in without a signed warrant by a criminal court judge."— Amy Jo Cousins (@_AJCousins) June 21, 2019
MAKE SURE YOUR COMMUNITIES KNOW THIS.
An arrest warrant signed by an ICE official is NOT a search warrant. It must be signed by a judge. https://t.co/KLXEzy6eFI
ICE has also already broken the unwritten sanctuary rule by entering churches to arrest migrants. Community and rights organization leaders are especially vulnerable and I would love them to lay low for a while, but I can't tell them what to do.
If you know anyone who is undocumented, make sure they know everything they need to know and check in with them periodically. Don't let these fascist thugs kidnap members of your community. See if you can contact local immigrant rights and religious organizations who might be planning protests or rapid response programs to block ICE vehicles from taking people away. They exist.
Stay safe. Protect each other.
