This Syrian Refugee Has Been Marooned in an Airport for a Month, With No End in Sight
How can they do this to a human being. What kind of unimaginable cruelty.
Hassan Al Kontar is bored out of his mind. For more than a month, the 36-year-old Syrian national has been pacing the transit terminal of Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia, unable to enter the country or purchase a ticket to leave. Like Tom Hanks in “The Terminal,” he is camped out in the departures lounge with a neck pillow and an airplane blanket, while his homeland is wracked by war.
This guy's story is ridiculous and another example of how awful capitalism and U.S. imperialism is. You should read the whole thing. This just happened to pop up on Medium when I was checking to see if my latest Establishment piece was up yet. He's just been jerked around and now he's going through his savings living at a fucking airport.
This is all because countries have created bureaucratic nightmares designed to deter refugees from even trying to enter, because they don't care if these people die. Fuck everything.
