Stormy Daniels is a National Hero

[TRIGGER WARNING: WHOREPHOBIA, DEATH THREATS]

The depths of whorephobia in this country are truly intense. Stormy Daniels may literally be the one to take down Donald Trump - something the entire liberal establishment has failed to do - and yet are we celebrating her? Are we giving her any credit? God forbid we treat a sex worker like a human being.

And it's not just because she revealed a "sex scandal." It's because she's suing Donald Trump over a "non-disclosure agreement," forcing him to basically admit that everything she said is true. Because he's not fighting her on the basis of slander. He's fighting her because he says she told the secret she wasn't supposed to tell. For this, she has received direct, in-person death threats, in front of and referencing her daughter. "It would be a shame if something happened to her mother."

Why are we treating her like garbage?

If it can be proven that Cohen paid Daniels off in order to aid his presidential prospects—which seems possible, given the timing; Daniels specifically began approaching reporters after the release of the Access Hollywood tape, a time when Trump’s campaign would have been under special pressure to squelch any sex scandals—then, according to watchdog group Common Cause, it could be classified as an unreported in-kind donation to Trump’s campaign.
And that could amount to a serious violation of campaign finance law, both because of the size of the donation (individuals aren't allowed to donate more than $2,700 to a campaign) and because any donations of this size have to be reported. In laymen's terms? If Cohen paid Daniels $130K to be quiet specifically to aid Trump's presidential run, that money is seen as a campaign donation. And Trump would be in big trouble. Because of this, Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA), a former prosecutor, has suggested that the NDA could indicate coordination with Trump, itself a violation of federal election law, and both Lieu and Rep. Kathleen Rice (D-NY) have called for an FBI investigation.

Where are the calls to rally behind Daniels? Where are the posts holding her up as the hero we need and don't deserve? Where are the tweets begging her to run for office?

Instead of all that, we have endless, boring jokes about her job.

By treating her as trashy or tainted or inherently ridiculous because of her job, we send the message that none of Trump’s flaws are worse than being a “porn star.” We make it seem like her mere existence is somehow more embarrassing than his worst offenses.

Fuck all this whorephobia. Stormy Daniels is my hero. If this is the thing that takes Trump down, it will be beautiful poetic justice. And yes, it will be funny. But let's laugh in triumph alongside Daniels rather than at her expense. Let's laugh because Trump's attempt to silence a woman backfired spectacularly, not because "lol porn lady." Daniels deserves our thanks, our support, our admiration, our appreciation, and our respect.
