ICE Continues to Round Up People to Throw Into Concentration Camps

It's been a little too long since I reminded people that we have concentration camps in this country already, and people who have been given guns and authority are going out and rounding up all the people who are being blamed for all the country's problems even though they're already oppressed and throwing them into said concentration camps.

Oh and they've been specifically targeting sanctuary cities to punish them for refusing to put more effort into rounding up "undesirables" and throwing them into concentration camps.

ICE Arrests 33 Over Four Days in Portland in Crackdown of Sanctuary Cities

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested 33 people in Portland, and 498 people nationally, during a four day sweep of "sanctuary cities" across the country, giving a big "fuck you" to local jurisdictions who don't comply with the cruel federal agency's request to turn over undocumented people they arrest to the feds.
The four day sweep—dubbed by the agency as "Operation Safe City"—wrapped up on Wednesday. It began just days after Attorney General Jeff Sessions came to Portland to inaccurately deliver "fear-mongering tidings of doom for Portland's immigrant-protecting officials."

Seriously, I hope ICE agents and the people supporting them realize that someday they'll be listed in the history books alongside nazi storm troopers as horrible oppressive forces of death. If there is a hell, that's where they're headed.

Mail Time!

Last night I got a brief email from one K. Freeze. I feel like I should address it.

You will kindly take down the picture of Shane Freeze. That was a picture that does not need to be on your site. You have the freedom of speech of course but not the freedom to slander. Respectfully take it down.

Dear K. Freeze,

Seeing as posting a screenshot of things someone voluntarily said and posted online is not, by any definition, slander, I'm going to RESPECTFULLY say:

My favorite muppet. I think I related to him.

Why I'm Glad Hugh Hefner is Dead

I think most people aren't aware of just how fucking creepy, controlling, abusive, and generally awful person Hugh Hefner was. He wasn't just your standard creepy old rich guy, which still would have been not great. Even though the women living in his nightmare mansion were there consensually, though I could do an entire blog post on the politics of choice (oh look I have), Hugh was controlling of these ladies to the point that is beyond 50 Shades of Gray not okay.

The 14 Worst Things About Hugh Hefner, as Revealed in Holly Madison's New Book

It starts off being pretty fucking terrible.

1. Though they publicly denied it, all girlfriends were expected to participate in Hef's bizarre bedtime group sex ritual. "I didn't immediately realize that all girlfriends were required to sleep with Hef," Madison writes.

Again, manipulation complicates the idea that they were all there by choice and doing everything they did with full consent. So, ick.

Then it gets weird. All kinds of strange rituals and messing with the women's heads make it sound like that mansion was a cult compound more than anything. And that old creepy fuck got his young children involved.

The only reason this guy was never arrested is because he was rich and white. And I'm glad he's dead so no women have to suffer through his abuse again. Someone get his kids to therapy.

I Realized Something

During one of my frequent pondering sessions over Why Are People Like That (and this one may or may not have been drug-induced), I came to understand a piece of the puzzle, I think.

Why are there white supremacists and nazis? Why in fuck's sake would you want to hate people so much over shit like the color of their skin or what religion they follow, to the point that you'll reach for the most bullshit and debunked psuedo-science to try and justify it? Why put that much effort into hate?

Then I remembered when I was a young teen, depressed, abused, anxious, and miserable. And empty. I felt empty. It occurred to me (possibly thanks in part to drugs) that this country, the U.S., is so  spiritually empty. And I don't mean we have a lack of religion. But large sections of that religious practice is so empty. I speak from experience. The Christianity I was raised on was empty. And considering how few Christians seems to actually go by the word of Christ, which is primarily to give all your money to the poor or you won't get into heaven, I'm going to assume that most of the Christian churches in this country are devoid of anything spiritual. I mean, we have prosperity Christianity, which takes a once very spiritual religion and turns it into nothing but a justification to hoard as much money as you can and fuck everybody else - the opposite of what Jesus would do.

Now, when I say "spiritual," I'm talking about a feeling. To me, spiritual means a sense that there is meaning to life, and/or there's something out there that's bigger than us humans and our pettiness. Or just that feeling you get in your core, a feeling of emotional fullness you get when you stop looking at the screen for a second and notice how the sunlight plays on the dancing leaves. Alternatively, when you stop being a snob for a second to appreciate that people use screens to find validation even in the middle of abusive situations, find friends, talk to loved ones thousands of miles away, etc. I, personally, need to get my ass outside more. But I don't think technology is to blame for our spiritual emptiness.

What is to blame is a long conversation to have another time. What I'm getting at is that when you're so empty, you look for something to fill yourself up. And I know by experience that hate will fill you up real nice. Hate makes you so full. It gives you something to focus on aside from your misery. It gives you a sense of purpose. An enemy. A scapegoat. And if there's a community around that hate? All the better. Suddenly you have friends. You have people who understand and validate you. Suddenly your emotional needs are met, albeit in the most toxic way possible.

In middle school, I just chose people to hate almost arbitrarily. Hatred of self-centeredness and more than a little internalized misogyny "I'm not like other girls" played into it. But I chose people to hate for the sake of hating them. I even admitted this to myself, although I wasn't entirely self-aware that I did it because I was empty and depressed.

This can work on the other side, too. Hating nazis will certainly give you all the same benefits as hating black people, but with some different results. Why people choose one over the other is more complicated, but I understand why people hate. I'm dealing with my own emptiness still, and hating rapists and nazis still fills me - temporarily. It's a lot better than hating random kids and wayyyyy better than hating oppressed people, but it's not ideal. I hope someday to find a way to be spiritually fulfilled and still wanting to help people because it's right.

For now, this new understanding helps. We need something to fill our kids up. A spiritual revolution? Maybe just some decent after-school programming? An educational revolution actually would be nice. If there's anything spiritually empty, it's our educational system, sucking all the joy out of learning.

We have a lot of work to do.

‘It’s gonna end with concentration camps’: Alt-right executive boasts of a future Europe with Hitler on their money

Patrik Hermansson, a 25-year-old Swede, went undercover to infiltrate the alt-right, creating a fake identity that led him to meetings with some of the group’s leaders.
As video Hermansson provided to the New York Times shows, he got one of the group’s highest-ranking members — Alt-Right Corporation board member Jason Reza Jorjani — to admit his “final solution” for minorities.
“It’s gonna end with the expulsion of the majority of the migrants, including [Muslim] citizens,” Jorjani told an undercover Hermansson at a pub near the Empire State Building in New York City. “It’s gonna end with concentration camps and expulsions and war at the cost of a few hundred million people.”
“We will have a Europe, in 2050, where the bank notes have Adolf Hitler, Napoleon Bonaparte, Alexander the Great,” he continued. “And Hitler will be seen like that: like Napoleon, like Alexander, not like some weird monster who is unique in his own category — no, he is just going to be seen as a great European leader.”

Yes, hello, antifa? You're doing a great job. Please keep driving these people underground before hundreds of millions of people die and we end up with Hitler money. Please save us. Love, Lindsey.

Pardon Me But

Okay carry on.

Undateable Nazi Loser Owned By Women He Thought He Was Smarter Than

Nothing like video evidence of nazi troll fucks going outside and being humiliated by their own complete lack of respect for other human beings to lift your spirits.

Who Is "Baked Alaska"? The Alt-Right Troll Was Shut Down By 3 Women He Had Been Harassing

In perhaps the most satisfying thing you'll see on the internet today, alt-righter Tim Gionet, aka "Baked Alaska," to those familiar with his online persona, reportedly attempted to harass a group of women outside of a club and got shut down when he tried to put his phone in their faces. One of the women then proceeds to break his "brand-new iPhone 7."

Oh yeah. That's the stuff.

The most hilarious part of this is that you know he did this out of a confusing and boner-softening combination of desiring these women, hating them because he knows they're way out of his league both physically and emotionally, and attempting to reconcile these feelings by convincing himself that he's intellectually superior to them. One broken iPhone and an unfulfilled police report say that, in fact, those women were also smarter than him.

It gets better.

In a second video posted by Berger, Gionet gets shut down again, this time by the general manager of the club who refuses to help him identify the women who reportedly broke his phone to the police.
"No. I don't want to do that for you," the general manager of Playhouse Night Club in Hollywood says. "If you're video taping in someone's face, and they tell you get out of their face, then it is what it is," When Gionet responds that it was technically legal, the manager says, "Oh, 100 percent, but you have to live with the consequences of what could happen."
"Also I don't believe you can video tape just anyone. Just my opinion. If you did that to me, I would do it too," she said. The general manager then proceeds to own Gionet with his tactics, standing incredibly close to his face and making him look visibly uncomfortable when he tries to leave. "Am I making you uncomfortable standing in your face? It's not illegal. It's so weird to invade people's privacy and their private space! But not against the law!" she added.

When your bullshit, juvenile excuse of "it's not technically against the rules so I can do it regardless of morality or your personal boundaries/humanity" gets thrown back in your face.

The cherry on top is that he then whine to his shitty followers, encouraged them to find and harass her online (which is illegal), and then begged them for money to replace his broken iPhone.

Puerto Ricans Are Both Americans and People

The amount of people in this country that don't know that Puerto Rico is part of the United States is staggering. I highly expect that this included our president until very recently. Though I wouldn't be surprised if he still doesn't quite understand and/or believe it.

But they are, Puerto Rico is unincorporated U.S. territory. Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens, though because this country is terrible, they don't get to vote. Our government just gets to exploit them totally and leave them to suffer when their economy goes to absolute shit. Or when they get hit buy multiple massive hurricanes.

But also, they're people. They deserve our help whether they're part of the U.S. or not. Puerto Rico has been utterly destroyed and will be without power for months. Then the people there will have to figure out how to rebuild their lives, their workplaces likely having been shut down, their homes heavily damaged, and their futures blown away in the wind.

How you can help hurricane victims in Puerto Rico

Maybe after you help the people of Puerto Rico after learning that they're U.S. citizens, you could  start fighting to give them the basic rights that every other citizen of this country has. If they're ruled by our government they should get to vote in federal elections that have a huge impact on their lives. Maybe then we could have a president who believes climate change is real.

If Kneeling During the National Anthem is Disrespectful, Then...

Remember When Things Were Normal?

I feel like we've reached the point where, at least for a lot of people, Lord Dampnut's constant antics have become normal. But take a breath to remember that no other President of the United States of America has gotten into a pissing contest with sports players, let alone the entire NFL. Neither has any other President gotten into any kind of pissing contest on fucking Twitter, I'm assuming because A) it's beneath the office of President and B) they were too busy running the fucking country.

And it was absolutely inconceivable that any President would go on Twitter and call an NFL player, or anyone, a "son of a bitch," or publicly swear at all! President Obama never used a swear on a public platform. I'm sure he made some cusses in private, but was never even caught on tape in eight years! Because he was the fucking President and people are supposed to freak the fuck out when the President swears, let alone uses a gendered slur like "bitch." Can you imagine the absolute meltdown that conservatives would have performed if Obama had been caught on tape privately calling  someone a son of a bitch? They freaked out when he didn't wear the right color suit jacket or put his feet up on his own desk.

Even the Heritage Foundation, notorious conservative think tank, can't come up with a list of scandals Obama is responsible for. They did make a list, but compared to all the shit Trump has done in the last eight months alone, it's fucking nothing.

What have they got? THE EMAILS. And of course who can forget BENGHAZI. The closest they can come is Operation Fast and Furious, which was pretty fucked up, but considering the fact that conservatives won't even lay blame on Trump for utterly bungled attacks that he himself ordered, they can hardly blame Obama for that. I mean they can, and they sure as hell did, but it's completely hypocritical. Of course "completely hypocritical" might as well be the Republican slogan, and as of right now, I'm going to consider it to be so.

Basically conservatives spent eight years having to invent scandals to scream about while the rest of us looked at them like this:

And now that Trump is ranting about a sports organization and calling an athlete a son of a bitch on Twitter instead of running the country, we're basically all acting like this is normal because we're desperately trying to address deadly police brutality while fighting for decent health care and pretty much fighting for our lives every minute of every day so that we don't even have the time and energy to pause and say "WHAT THE FUCK THIS IS COMPLETELY ABSURD WHAT TWILIGHT ZONE WORLD ARE WE LIVING IN," and that fucks with my head.

Anyway, if you're calling black people "ungrateful," I'm 100% sure you're a racist. You know that we white people have been doing that since slave owners called their slaved ungrateful for all the food and shelter they got as fucking slaves, right? Fuck you.

Gif of the Day

There's a person who makes gif art what are you doing to me.

Oh Yeah and This is Happening

I'm literally at the point where the rape culture issues popping up are so infuriating and also just make me feel like basically "WHATEVER I GUESS WE'RE NEVER GOING TO BE ABLE TO HAVE ANYTHING NICE BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS EVERY TIME SO HOW ABOUT YOU JUST ALL GO DIE JUST DIE PLEASE JUMP OFF A CLIFF BECAUSE I'M TIRED OF IT."

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos announced Friday that she would rescind the Obama administration’s guidelines on campus sexual assault, part of an effort to strengthen protections for accused students.
The department will replace the Obama-era directives with new standards that "emphasize the importance of fairness and impartiality," a senior department official told reporters Friday, echoing a common rallying cry of advocates for students who have been accused of assault. The department released interim guidance for schools Friday, while new regulations are in the works.

The thing that gets me here is that the Obama administration "guidelines" were really barely more than just that - guidelines. Like "hey if someone says they've been raped on your campus can you pleeeease listen and not just tell them to go fuck themselves?" I think maybe their funding could be threatened but you'd have to prove that they broke the meager guidelines set out, and they were not much. Since the guidelines were set, there have still been plenty of reports of sexual assault victims getting  screwed over by college administrations, which have continued to prioritize the safety and comfort of the "accused," and of course their precious, precious tuition money.

This is just a slap in the face to all survivors. All I can figure is that it's just another checkbox on the list of everything Obama did in his eight years as president that needs to be undone for political points or generally because Obama's black. And as always, sexual assault survivors are an easy target. I mean, Betsy doesn't have to worry about being accused of rape on campus, I'm assuming, and neither does Lord Dampnut, and they of course only care about themselves. The only other explanation I can think of is that they're under pressure by rich fucks to protect their rich rapist sons from any consequences.

I'm sick of having the same fight over and over. I'm sick to death of having to explain that "the accused" don't need additional advocacy because our entire culture already advocates for them. Universities are clearly, obviously financially motivated to take their side, and the rest of the population wants to pretend that the ridiculously and horrifyingly huge rape problem on campuses and the rest of the country doesn't exist.

I posted about this on Facebook and my anarchist friend pointed out that this is why the cycle of elections is pointless and results in no real progress ever being made because every time it inevitably cycles back to Republicans, they roll any progress right back! Even the shitty, ineffectual Democrat brand of "progress." And shit, man, he's making more and more sense as time goes along.

I'm honestly still pretty sure that it's not possible to stop this train we're on. Republicans may have already made it impossible for a real Democrat majority to happen, and even if it did, with the way Dems have been shifting right, big whoop. I don't know if a third, actually leftist party is possible without total political and social collapse so that we can rebuild from scratch. And that sucks because that's going to literally kill a lot of our most vulnerable people. But as the Russia investigation becomes a joke so obscene that none of us can even look at it anymore and we plunge toward economic and perhaps nuclear disaster, I remain very pessimistic that a better solution is possible.

Headline of the Century

I'm not kidding, I keep checking the URL over and over to make sure this is really HuffPo and not a trick.

‘Neo-Nazi’ Man Mauled By Lion At Barcelona Zoo

This happened in 2014, but is being spread around now I guess because of relevancy. Lmao.

A man - reported to be a neo-Nazi demonstrator - has been seriously injured after climbing into lion enclosure at Barcelona Zoo.
Dressed in an army uniform, he scaled a security fence and stood in front of a lioness.
He was promptly dragged into a tunnel and mauled.

I'm really hoping this is an omen.

The article does not explain what the fuck this guy was doing, but I'm going to assume that it was  some kind of fragile masculinity thing, like he was standing there and went "this lion is FEMALE? I'll show her" and then "promptly" gets mauled. I just love the use of the word "promptly." No time wasted there.

The article also mentions that they lioness was not trying to eat him but just wanted to "play with him." I prefer to believe that the lioness took one look at him and was like "is that a fucking swastika? Oh c'mere you little shit." But they get to play the innocent, of course, because they're lions.

The moral of the story is that lions hate nazis. Someone draw up an emblem of a lion mauling a guy with the "good night alt-right" slogan.

Dear Millennial Men

Hi there. How are you? Could we have a talk?

About this?

Researchers Discovered Something About Millennial Men

A majority of millennial men failed to see women as equals, according to the study, which looked at how college biology students viewed their classmates’ intelligence and achievements, the Harvard Business Review reported.

Among the findings:
  • In every biology class surveyed, a man was seen as the most celebrated student, even in instances where women earned significantly better grades.
  • Men were also found to overestimate the intelligence of their male classmates over that of female ones.
  • Men continued exaggerating their assessments of the male peers, despite unequivocal evidence that their female peers were performing better.
  • Women, conversely, weren't found to display a bias: Their assessments of fellow classmates tended to be spot-on.

Nope, nuh-uh, I don't wanna hear that you're one of the good ones. Collect your own. Go.

Violence, Cont.

I continue to see liberals, including highly visible celebrity liberals like Trevor Noah and Samantha Bee, push the idea that any kind of physical violence from leftists, no matter how minor in comparison to the nazi end-game (genocide), is bad.

Luckily Brittany Packnett, black activist and amazing human being, outlined it in an incredible Twitter thread.

There's more too it and you should read the entire thread.

The fact is that we white people have been bringing violence to largely peaceful civilizations for centuries. We come and we murder and we steal everything, and then claim it was always ours. That is our legacy going back many centuries. We stole most of the things we claim credit for, subjugated everyone who was not white, kept education and resources for ourselves, and now some of us have the audacity to claim that since we were the only ones inventing things during this time of mass subjugation, we are therefore the superior race.

Meanwhile, many of those who are not outright white supremacists still demand that those we oppressed only fight for the rights and status we stole from them and continue to withhold by our standards. Which, to many, means only protesting in ways that are so ineffective, we don't even notice it. No disruption. Not even doing a different thing during our shitty, violent national anthem.

How dare you. How dare we.

We have created so much violence. We do not deserve peace.

No justice, no peace.

Alt-Right Holds Mother of All Failures

Over the weekend, Trump supporters tried to create what they called the "Mother of All Rallies," I'm assuming after the Mother of All Bombs, which is appropriate considering the fact that the bomb containing the equivalent of 15,000 to 20,000 tons of TNT only killed a measly 94 "enemy combatants," allegedly. And the "Mother of All Rallies" fell well short of its goal of a million Trump supporters, instead attracting only a few hundred people, including blatant neo-nazis and various other white supremacists that the organizers of the rally said would not be allowed there. In fact, white supremacist militia was providing security.

The pro-Trump rally was eclipsed by a nearby Juggalo march, showing that there are more hardcore fans of the band Ins*ne Clown Posse in the area upset enough by their classification as a gang by the FBI to march than there are Trump fans.

Here's an aerial view of the pro-Trump rally:

Here's the Juggalos:

The alt-right continues to play itself.

Predictable Ending to Man Wearing Nazi Armband Saga

Yesterday, an actual swastika armband-wearing nazi was spotted in Seattle, riding the light rail from Ballard to downtown. Someone snapped a photo:

How does a guy wear that in fucking Seattle without getting punched, you might ask. Well...

Goodnight, nazi fuck.

There's video of the guy getting punched but the puncher's (hero's) face isn't covered and he's black so I'm not about to spread that around. If he does get arrested, though, I will be donating to his legal team.

Gif of the Day

Oh my god this kitten is 90% eyes and toe beans.

What is Violence?

I've struggled with our societal concept of violence for quite a long time. As a child, I was verbally and emotionally abused. I had to deal with both that and the confusion over its effect on me due to the fact that to many people, if I wasn't physically hit, it wasn't abuse. Verbal and emotional violence isn't a thing. You can say the most horrific things to a person, systematically break down their self-esteem and/or make them fear for their safety every waking moment, but somehow this isn't as bad as one single smack to the face.

Our concept of self-defense is fucked as well. Is it violence if it's self-defense? At least from a legal standpoint, that answer is supposed to be no. Yet Marissa Alexander was sentenced to 20 years for shooting a warning shot to defend herself and her children from her ex, who was being verbally violent and threatening them with physical violence. At the same time, George Zimmerman.

Now, we have all kinds of both conservative and liberal media outlets condemning antifa because they don't subscribe to our odd, hypocritical, fucked up sense of non-violence fetishism. It blows my  mind, because we consume so much fiction, much of it containing clear allegories for fascists and nazis or straight up nazis, and we cheer for the rebels or the magical children or whoever as they engage in physical violence, very often killing enemies, to fight the threat of genocide or some other mass murder. But when the real thing comes along, suddenly some scuffles in the street and broken windows are not acceptable? Is it too real for you? Are you still riding that hope that the limo could one day be yours? What is it?

Then there's the fact that our nations engage in horrific violence on a mass scale and we sit back every day and tolerate it. Children starving when we have enough food to feed everyone is violence. Police clearing out homeless camps, stealing their meager possessions, roughing them up and forcing them to go somewhere else when they have nowhere to go, is violence. Us going into other, poorer countries to steal their resources until they're forced to take sweatshop jobs in polluted, unsafe conditions is violence. People die every day from shit like this. Where are all the thinkpieces about them?

Roughing a couple people up and making it clear that fascism and white supremacy will not be tolerated is, technically, violence. But it's nothing compared to what we tolerate every day so that we can have cheap clothes and phones and the rich of our country can make further billions that they don't need. And antifa is using violence to try and prevent fucking genocide. They've had to qualify it as preventive self-defense, and I'm not sure if that's really a thing. But it definitely doesn't need to be.

We tolerate violence. We cheer violence. All the time. Why is this one type of low-level violence unacceptable? Please explain.

I've had another piece published, this my first on Ravishly. I'm kinda getting awesome at this whole freelance thing so watch out, pretty soon you'll see my work everywhere.

How To Arm Your Fellow White Loved Ones Against White Nationalism

Required reading for my fellow white people and anybody who loves me.

First, you need to understand the seductive nature of the white supremacist message to white people. In reality, white people have privilege because of their race. It is therefore our responsibility to recognize that privilege within ourselves, lift up people of color, and tear down the system giving us an unfair advantage. That sounds like work, doesn’t it? And work is hard. The white supremacist’s message is that actually, you don’t need to do any of that work! Whether it’s because white privilege isn’t real; or it’s actually white people who are being persecuted right now; or, due to some twisted version of junk science that was thoroughly debunked many decades ago, white superiority is natural! So not only do you not have to do all that hard work to give up the unfair advantage you were handed, you can actually feel free to take even more from people of color and blame them for all of your problems!

I think this is really quite important. I recently spoke to a stranger on Tumblr who reached out to me because his brother marched with the nazis at Charlottesville and his family doesn't understand what the hell happened. I have a friend whose brother started going down that path, but luckily she was there to intervene. It can happened anywhere. Be vigilant.

Prison Inmates Are Being Left in Flooded Cells to Die

You know how people who have committed and been convicted of crimes are still human beings? And maybe they still deserve to have their basic needs met so that they don't die horribly? Like maybe they still have some human rights and we have a Constitution that forbids cruel and unusual punishment? And also they're people?

At one point in this country Christians rallied together to demand better conditions for prisoners because they were being subjected to unimaginable suffering and dying horribly. Once that was exposed, we decided that prisoners are people and we came up with all kinds of laws protecting them and ensuring that they get to live in reasonable conditions while they're rehabilitated. Today, we've apparently entirely given up on the rehabilitation thing and are just letting guards kill inmates at random and leaving them to starve or die from drinking contaminated water or die of thirst or die of heat stroke or die from eating spoiled food, etc. etc.

Thousands of inmates are left in Miami’s Irma evacuation zone

What is happening to those inmates now that Irma has hit? Well, let's look at what Houston's prison inmates went/are going through.

Harvey’s Victims: Prisoners Drink Toilet Water in a Fight to Survive Under Lockdown

During Hurricane Harvey, Beaumont Federal Prison was put on lockdown. There are two people to a tank—it’s a small cell. There is flood water in their cells and they didn’t let them out. They were stuck in their cells for five days- cells that were flooded. They were on lockdown for five days. I spoke to my husband the very first time on September 2nd when he informed me of the conditions. August 27th was the last time I spoke to my husband before that.
During that time, I watched the hurricane on TV. I would call the jail and say "Hey, are you moving them? Hurricane Harvey is hitting" and they would tell me they can’t give me that information. I would ask why they couldn’t tell me and then they would hang up on me. They did that about five times.
On Saturday, they let out the inmates for an hour for the first time. After the guards found out that the inmates were contacting their families and loved ones to tell them about the conditions, they locked them all back up. When I spoke to my husband, he was angry and frustrated. There was still water in his cell. I don’t know some of the details because I didn’t want to frustrate him even more. I haven’t heard from him since.
After Hurricane Harvey, I was told they are very low on food and water. They are getting two sandwiches a day. These are grown men. They need more than two sandwiches.
They are using the restroom in bags so they can save the toilet water. They all have been drinking the toilet water since they have been low on water supply. He said that even though the toilet water has bacteria, at this moment he didn’t care and the other prisoners didn’t care either. They are really thirsty. He said he would drink anything. He told me that if this water didn’t kill him, the conditions were going to kill him. That’s how bad it is.
They have no air conditioning and they barely got the power back on three days ago. These prisoners haven’t even taken showers or had a hot meal since Sunday, August 27th.
I have an email saying that two inmates in medium low have passed away because of this treatment. I found out because an inmate’s wife emailed me that. Her husband who is locked up told her. They need help.

Hey, that is horrifying!

These people are drinking toilet water and dying from these conditions and nobody's talking about it. They're human beings. The state is supposed to protect them. We're supposed to give a fuck about them. They're people. This is not acceptable.

Please care about this.

Another White Supremacist Drives Into Crowd of Protesters

I haven't seen this pop up on national news, I guess because nobody died, but yeah, that happened again. This time in Vancouver, Washington thanks to yet another "free speech" rally put on by "Patriot Prayer," the group that insists its not about white supremacy but keeps inviting nazis and white supremacists to it rallies so????

This time, likely inspired by the Charlottesville murderer who has been celebrated and revered by the same white supremacists online, one of these assholes attempted to run over protesters multiple times, according to witnesses. He was arrested on the scene, and then police released him without charge because they thought he was so scared :( :( :( poor baby white supremacist got so scared awwwwwwwwwww fuck you.

Vancouver Police Say Officers Released Driver Who Nearly Ran Over Antifa Protesters Because “He Was Scared”

McNicholas says the driver claimed that the protesters on the street who yelled and banged on his doors scared him inside his vehicle. As he drove through the middle of the march, revving his engine and honking his horn repeatedly, he suddenly stopped and accelerated backwards.
Because of his claims, the officers decided they could not be sure a crime happened, McNicholas says.
After the car reversed out of the crowd, forcing people to jump out of the vehicle's path, the driver stopped at an intersection and revved his engine as counter-protesters scrambled to change their path and get out of the truck's way. He then went around the block and his path intersected with the protesters again—and that's when police pulled him over.

Remember when I said that cops support white supremacists? Can you imagine what would have happened if the driver had been black and the protesters had been white supremacists?

Headline of the Month

You've heard about Piano Man. Now get ready for:

Piano Man trying to win back girlfriend with public performance stops playing after being 'punched in the head'

It's unclear whether he got punched in the head because he was getting dragged so badly for being a controlling creep stalker fuck or because some homeless person was trying to fucking sleep, but whatever, he's stopped. I can only hope he leaves that poor woman alone but knowing men I'm not going to hold my breath.

Life goals honestly.

Is Your Political Stance Self-Serving?

Centrists, we need to talk. I need to you understand some things. And I need you to do engage in some honest self-examination. If you're capable of that.

Have you ever noticed that the position of "both sides are bad" and "violence is always wrong" and "everyone should be allowed to speak/march" are A) extremely simplistic to the point that they require little to no actual thought and B) don't require you to do anything?

Centrists/moderates/whatever tend to act like their position is so enlightened and rare and above everything and better than everyone. Fact is, their position is very common because it's extremely easy. All it requires you to do is spout off a couple useless platitudes that are too simplistic to apply to a complex world and then you get to feel morally superior while coasting on the fact that at least you're not in the side of eugenics and genocide.

You don't have to march. You don't have to organize. You don't have to fight. And so you have to ask yourself - are you only clinging to the middle because it's easy?

And if you're not willing to entertain that question, I'm going to press you further:

"If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality." Desmond Tutu.

Your centrist position serves the oppressor. Your centrist position supports fascist and white supremacists and Donald Trump. You think you haven't chosen a side, but you have.

And the rest of us know it.

Afternoon Announcements

Hello fellow feminists! This is a post to announce that I am planning to re-create this blog under a new name and URL. Not Sorry Feminism is okay but the fact is that there are good reasons to be sorry, regardless of gender. Apologizing isn't bad, even if women are generally taught to do so too much. And I thought of something better.

I've long been bitter that transphobes and racists have ruined the name of radical feminism. Aside from racist roots and TERFs, I believe in radical feminism. I believe that we need radical change, not just in terms of gender equity, but in terms of race, class, size, sexuality, ability, etc. Things need to change radically or they will not really change at all. In fact, I believe we are in need of a full-on revolution.

Introducing Revolutionary Feminism! It takes all the good parts of radical feminism and leaves behind the boring transphobia and racism, and acknowledges the need for greater change beyond just that of gender relations. All the oppressed need to be lifted up, and that means revolutionary change. Abolishing capitalism, for example.

Instead of radfems, we'll be revfems! Vroom vroom get in losers we're going to smash the patriarchy!

So that should all go down in the next couple months. I'm hoping to build a better site, by which I mean getting a professional to do it. All the old content will migrate over and I'll do the whole redirect thing to make it easy for my couple of regular readers. I've already bought the domain and I'm excited to spread the word of Revolutionary Feminism!

Recommended Reading

I know there's a lot to read on the ol' internet these days, but this recommended reading comes in comic form with a really beautiful art style, courtesy of Mike Dawson and The Nib.

Why Did The Immigrants Come?

Long comic but short read. And it really effectively gets at the root of anti-immigrant attitudes and why they're fucked up.

"They did what they had to to survive."

And we punish them for trying to survive.

Let's not forget that white people came here from Europe looking for a better life in the first place, and stole this land from the indigenous population. We came uninvited and put up fences when we had no right to. We have no right to tell anybody who can and can't live here.

Morning Announcements

Hey, it's my birthday! So I'm fucking off today and tomorrow. I would have taken the entire week off but so much stuff has been happening. Fuck Donald Trump for ending DACA. Honestly he has no fucking soul.

Anyway see y'all next week if my entire state hasn't burned down.

Deportation Kills

In the wake of the revocation of the DACA, a lot of people, including former President Obama, have been saying that this is wrong because dreamers have done nothing wrong. Meaning they didn't come to this country illegally, but were brought here by their parents when they were too young to make any kind of decision for themselves.

Here's the thing. It's true that canceling DACA is especially cruel and exposes Trump's absolute soullessness. But saying that undocumented immigrants did something wrong by coming here "illegally" is bullshit. Okay, sure, they technically did something the U.S. has made illegal. But this goes beyond the "is stealing bread for your starving family wrong" thing. This is "is fleeing to another country because that country ruined your country with a bullshit, completely political 'war on drugs' and general imperialism to the point that if you don't run your daughters will likely be sold into sex slavery and your sons will be forced to join a gang or die wrong?" I'm not exaggerating.

The gang violence in many parts of Latin America is horrifying and it's the U.S.'s fault. So people flee to the U.S. because it's the only decent option for their families. Or they just send fathers to work and send money back to their families who would face starvation without it. That's wrong?

That brings us to the title of this post. Deportation is not only cruel, it can and does lead to the deaths of the human beings deported. One of the reasons cancelling DACA is so cruel is that recipients are even less likely to have any family or contacts in whatever country they would be deported to. Imagine being deported to a country ravaged by violence and you don't know anyone there or have any place to stay. What the fuck would you even do? And for some people, actually those who were adults when they fled, they might have fled because they were being targeted by a gang for refusing to cooperate with them. Being sent back to that country is a fucking death sentence.

People are all shocked we have nazis in this country when we already demonize, scapegoat, round up, put in concentration camps, and then ship off to their deaths a specific and racialized group of people. If you're cool with this because some of them did something technically illegal out of utter desperation then honestly, you're terrible, don't talk to me.

Mail Time!

Today's mail comes from somebody named "Mophat" to tell me that I'm wrong about antifa! Good stuff.

Antifa a short history:
The organization was initially part of the Soviet Union’s front operations to bring about communist dictatorship in Germany, and it worked to label all rival parties as “fascist.”
The organization can be traced to the “united front” of the Soviet Union’s Communist International (Comintern) during the Third World Congress in Moscow in June and July 1921, according to the German booklet “80 Years of Anti-Fascist Action” by Bernd Langer, published by the Association for the Promotion of Anti-Fascist Culture. Langer is a former member of the Autonome Antifa, formerly one of Germany’s largest Antifa
The Communist Origins of the Antifa Extremist Group
Group promoted communist dictatorship in Germany on Soviet Union's behalf and labeled all ideologies other than communism as 'fascism'
The extremist anarchist-communist group Antifa has been in the headlines because of recent violent clashes in Charlottesville, Virginia. Yet while the organization has been applauded by some left-leaning news outlets for including white nationalists and neo-Nazis in its list of targets, the organization wasn’t always about targeting “fascism,” as it claims.
The Soviet Union was among the world’s most violent dictatorships, killing an estimated 20 million people, according to “The Black Book of Communism,” published by Harvard University Press. The Soviet regime is second only to the Chinese Communist Party under Mao Zedong, which killed an estimated 65 million people.
Anti-fascism is a strategy rather than an ideology.
— Bernd Langer, former member, Autonome Antifa
The idea of the united front strategy was to bring together left-wing organizations in order to incite communist revolution. The Soviets believed that following Russia’s revolution in 1917, communism would next spread to Germany, since Germany had the second-largest communist party, the KPD (Communist Party of Germany).
It was at the Fourth World Congress of the Comintern in 1922 that the plan took shape. Moscow formed the slogan “To the Masses” for its united front strategy and sought to join together the various communist and workers’ parties of Germany under a single ideological banner that it controlled.
“The ‘unified front’ thus did not mean an equal cooperation between different organizations, but the dominance of the workers’ movement by the communists,” Langer writes.
Benito Mussolini, a Marxist and socialist who had been expelled from Italy’s Socialist Party in 1914 for his support for World War I, later founded the fascist movement as his own political party. He took power through his “March on Rome” in October 1922.
In Germany, Adolf Hitler became head of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (Nazi Party) in 1921 and mounted a coup attempt in 1923.
The KPD decided to use the banner of anti-fascism to form a movement. Langer notes, though, that to the KPD, the ideas of “fascism” and “anti-fascism” were “undifferentiated,” and the term “fascism” served merely as rhetoric meant to support their aggressive opposition.
Both the communist and fascist systems were based in collectivism and state-planned economies. Both also proposed systems wherein the individual was heavily controlled by a powerful state, and both were responsible for large-scale atrocities and genocide

Dear Mophat,

Thank you for copying and pasting this except of a post you found on Infowars that was cut from a much longer article by The Epoch Times, an anti-communist news media website. The entire basis for this history is a booklet in German that does not translate well with Google Translate. And I can't read German. So I can't verify what's in it. But I'm sure there's no chance of bias. Thank god you were here, to show me how wrong I am about antifa.

For anybody else who might be reading, antifa is not actually an organization. It's short for anti-fascism. There are some tactics and principles generally shared by groups who are explicitly anti-fascist. This particular group talked about in the excerpt above may have come up with the logo still used, but that doesn't make them the original antifa. Antifa originated when fascism was born and regular people looked at it and were like "this is shit."

Here's a better history of antifa that still acknowledges that violence plays a role (and needs to):

Violence has always been part of the anti-fascist movement, a new history of Antifa shows

Thanks for everything, Mophat.

Will Climate Deniers Drown Denying Climate Change?

Like I'm wondering, what will it take for these political climate change deniers to admit that something is wrong? I know their denial is politically motivated, at the very least like, "if I admit that liberals are right about one single thing my entire identity will be shattered." But like, do they have to be up to their necks in rising flood waters or staring down the flames raging toward their homes in the Pacific Northwest?

I ask because last night I had a fitful sleep because it never really cooled down and I woke up with a headache and just feeling shitty, then came out of my bedroom to find that the sunlight was a vivid orange-red. Then I went on Facebook to see reports from my local friends about ash all over their cars.

So the South is drowning, another, possibly worst hurricane ever is bearing down upon the Southeast and maybe also the entire East because it's getting that huge, and the entire Northwest is on fire.

Things are feeling a little apocalyptic here and it's got me in a mood. I might spend today writing in a new genre: apocalyptic creative non-fiction.

Happy Labor Day!

I'm not doing any labor today! Except this one short post to say that if you are an underpaid, undervalued worker forced to do labor today, I'm really sorry and I promise that you and your fellows will be the first to be liberated in the revolution while your bosses are made to answer for their crimes.

As for the rest of you, remember that this is not a day to celebrate "work ethic" but a day to celebrate the labor movement that organized the mass strikes that got us things like days off. And if you don't support that, you'll be answering!

Cats do not obey the laws of physics.

Police and Toxic Masculinity

You've likely already seen the video of the cop violently arresting a nurse for insisting that he not break the law by taking blood from an unconscious patient without consent and without a warrant. Be warned, if you haven't seen it, I found it a little triggering to see a woman violently arrested, screaming and sobbing "you're assaulting me." There's also ableist language in the video and at the link.

It's generally disturbing to see an innocent woman be arrested for doing her job. One thing I've yet to see pointed out in any of the articles I've read on this is that nursing is a very difficult job. It's physically and emotionally demanding, and for this woman, who is visibly uncomfortable and nervous before the arrest as she has her supervisor on speaker phone trying to defend her from this large male cop. Despite her fear, Nurse Alex Wubbels stands her ground to protect the rights of her patient. Basically, give this woman a raise and the nurse of the year award, because she is amazing at her job.

The details of this entire thing are confusing as hell. The patient was actually a truck driver who was the victim of a car crash caused by a suspect who had fled from police. The suspect died in the crash, and police claim they were trying to protect the truck driver by testing his blood for substances. Why? The suspect is dead, isn't that case closed? Who is going to accuse this victim of driving under the influence and why? And even if they did accuse him and it was too late to draw his blood for testing, wouldn't a lack of a positive test keep them from being able to successfully accuse him of that? And how could they know he wasn't? Given the conditions truck drivers are expected to work under, you know, you hear that they have to use stimulants to get through. And I don't fucking blame them. I blame capitalism and their bosses.

So I don't know what's really going on here or why this cop should be so eager to get blood from the victim. But regardless, the law was not on his side. It is explicitly illegal to draw blood from a person without consent, without a warrant, and if he's not under arrest. The fact that a nurse had to explain this to a cop is phenomenal. After the fact he claimed he thought there was implied consent, but implied consent in these cases was ruled Not A Thing last year. You'd think cops would keep up on what the fuck is and isn't legal but I dunno.

But I do know what is going on, at least partially, behind the cop's anger and sudden violent outburst. He's another entitled, power-hungry, toxic masculinity-fueled white male cop. Cops tend to become violently angry when defied, especially by those they consider to be below them. And you can bet he considered a nurse, even a head nurse, to be lesser. So when her supervisor warns him that he's making a mistake, he snaps. He grabs at her phone, and she pulls away, because what the fuck it's her phone not his. This makes him angrier, because how dare she not immediately submit to him and instead act like a human being!

Men who are most affected by toxic masculinity tend to go into policing. They loooove being given a gun and told that they're essentially above the law and get to bully people with impunity. Same thing with white supremacists. So this clearly unlawful and unnecessarily violent arrest was his toxic and fragile masculinity being triggered by a nurse telling him that he was wrong and he couldn't do the thing he wanted to do. So he punished her. That's what that arrest was. Punishing her for standing up to him.

She hasn't sued yet because she's hoping the cops will learn something from this, and I gotta tell you, Alex, they won't. Just sue them. Get yours.

Texans Don't Deserve This

There have been a number of individuals who have taken the opportunity presented by Hurricane Harvey, which is producing the most devastating floods seen in the U.S. since Katrina, to say that the entire state of Texas deserves this because the state went to Trump. This includes a Florida professor, who was recently fired for tweeting remarks expressing this sentiment.

Good. And I'm glad to see the right jumping on board the idea of firing toxic people, though I'm sure they'll go right back to wailing about free speech next time a white supremacist is fired for doing something incredibly racist.

But you know, what Professor Kenneth L. Storey said was racist as well. As with Katrina, and as with every disaster, it's the poor who will lose the most. It's the poor who live on the Texas coast where flood protections are completely inadequate. They are the ones who have already lost everything. And of course, the poorest among Texans are black and brown families. The ones who overwhelmingly voted against Trump. But Storey didn't think about that. In his white and middle class privilege, he never had to consider that the people who will be hurt most by Hurricane Harvey are the ones who can't afford to live on the hills, can't afford flood insurance, couldn't afford to flee.

So if you also, at any point, suggested that all of Texas deserves what's happening, consider the following:
