Deportations of undocumented immigrants ramped the hell up under the Obama administration, and many of us on the left did nothing. It went unreported in actual liberal media sources, it was ignored even when it was reported, and even those of us who acknowledge and spoke out about it didn't do much to actually fight it. It's easier to ignore when someone seemingly on your side is doing something wrong, isn't it?
We need to step up now. Use your hatred of Lord Dampnut and any number of the immigrant-hating white supremacists in his cabinet to fuel your desire to act. Then do this kind of shit:
Protesters rally to stop ICE officials from deporting Arizona woman who has lived in US for 21 years
Soon after, protesters gathered at the office and tried to block vehicles from leaving, the local news site AZCentral reported. They chanted, "justice!" and "Power to the people! No one is illegal!" as her husband and two children watched. Her husband, who asked not to be identified because of his own immigration status, said he and his wife were brought to the U.S. when they were teenagers.
"Basically we are Americans," he said. "This is our country."
This is how you fight racist deportation policies. Don't let them take anyone away without a fight. We need to be ready to mobilize any time a community member is being arrested by ICE for deportation. Block their vehicles. Make it as difficult as possible.
This case was over a 35-year-old woman who has been living in the U.S. for 20 years, meaning she was brought into the country when she was 15. She can't even be held responsible for the decision to enter the U.S. without proper approval. But remember, this doesn't mean that anyone who entered the country recently while they were an adult deserves to be deported. We have to stand up for ALL undocumented immigrants. Don't get bogged down in who deserves it.
