American Horror Story: Pro-Lifers

[TRIGGER WARNING: RAPE CULTURE, BODY HORROR, CISSEXISM]

I know that's an old meme by now but good god fucking hell holy shit god damn, "pro-life" people. They just keep getting bolder with the horribleness.

First (rape culture trigger warning):

Arkansas passes law allowing rapists to sue victims who want an abortion

This must rank in the top 5 of most horrifying pieces of anti-abortion legislation ever dreamed up by Republicans. This law allows husbands to get an injunction to block the termination of their wives' pregnancy, making no exception for marital rape. Of course, since Republicans generally don't seem to believe that marital rape is a thing because women belong to their husbands, right? I guess the lesson is that if you're able to get pregnant and you live in Arkansas, for the love of fuck, don't get married to a cis man. Because he will then be granted control over your body should he pump a baby into you.

Not only that, but it gives cis men the right to sue abortion doctors for doing their jobs, which is clearly meant to scare the few abortion providers left in Arkansas away from... doing their jobs. Effectively making abortion inaccessible in the state. And it outlaws the safest method of abortion, because people who get abortions should die. Oh and if you're a minor, your parents are granted control over your body if you become pregnant.

FUCK YOU Arkansas Republicans.

But the horror doesn't end there, oh no!

Oklahoma is engaging in its routine introduction of 10,000% unconstitutional anti-abortion bills, including one that is unlikely even to pass this state's committee that requires a pregnant person to obtain written permission from their spouse (presumed to be a cis man) to get an abortion. But we're not at the horror yet. Brace yourself. The author of the bill had this to say about it:

Ultimately, he said, his intent was to let men have a say. “I believe one of the breakdowns in our society is that we have excluded the man out of all of these types of decisions,” he said. “I understand that they feel like that is their body,” he said of women. “I feel like it is a separate — what I call them is, is you’re a ‘host.’ And you know when you enter into a relationship you’re going to be that host and so, you know, if you pre-know that then take all precautions and don’t get pregnant,” he explained. “So that’s where I’m at. I’m like, hey, your body is your body and be responsible with it. But after you’re irresponsible then don’t claim, well, I can just go and do this with another body, when you’re the host and you invited that in.”

Okay. Buddy. Pal. The use of the word "host" in this context is just... I mean, all I can think of is...

 You see what I'm saying.

And pro-lifers get mad at us for calling an embryo/fetus a parasite. Cripes.

And I'm all for being a good host but even if I invite a guest into my home, it doesn't mean I'm obligated to take care of all their needs for nine months, share my blood with them, and then push them out of my vagina. That's the most unreasonable guest ever.

The fact is that the fundamental disagreement that we pro-choicers have with the so-called "pro-life" crowd is that we think that people's bodies belong to them and them alone, and they don't. And they can make all the excuses they want but Representative Horror Movie's comments make their real beliefs on the matter very clear.

Fuck. You. My body. My choice.
