It's Not Funny

Yesterday I argued with a white gay man who is a Trump supporter. Yes, they exist. Many or all of them are fans of Milo Yiannopoulos. He posted a photo of Trump with a rainbow flag and I pointed out that his running mate, Mike Pence, thinks that you can turn gay kids straight with electroshock therapy. He not only believes and supports this, he's attempted to fund it as governor of Indiana by diverting money away from programs that don't make gay kids kill themselves.

He thought this was funny and responded with meme images. I pointed out that conversion therapy leads to suicide, and he still thought it was funny. He laughed at my pointing out that conversion therapy makes gay kids commit suicide.

Later, I posted about voter suppression and its role in this presidential election - the first since the gutting of the Voting Rights Act. Some shit friend of some other Facebook friend ended up seeing it and called my pointing out that states illegally ignored court orders to stop voter suppression activity "hilariously pathetic." Was it exactly as hilariously pathetic every time Trump claimed that the election was rigged against him back when it looked like he was going to lose?

None of this is funny. The suicide hotlines are overloaded right now. Trans groups are already reporting a series of suicides of their trans members since election night. Things will only get worse as people lose their healthcare, rights are taken away from LGBT+ folks, families are torn apart, and the economy goes to hell. People will die. People are already dying. If you think that's funny, then why don't you go ahead and die? If you think it's so funny. If you think it's funny when people die before their time, then die.
