The Forsaken: A Rising Number of Homeless Gay Teens Are Being Cast Out by Religious Families

The above is a lengthy article from Rolling Stone about how the rise in LGBTQAIP+ acceptance has actually caused an increase in homeless youth, simply because these kids see more acceptance and begin to hope that their (usually religious) parents will accept them as well, only to be kicked out or "edged out" by said parents.

This article illustrates the problems within the mainstream LGBTQAIP+ movement in terms of how it avoids discussions of their homeless youth and the effects of religious intolerance in an effort to keep up a pleasant image.

I'm cishet, so keep in mind that I'm only repeating what LGBTQAIP+ persons have taught me. What I've read is that the focus on marriage equality distracts from issues that have life and death consequences, particularly the massive homelessness problem among these marginalized and rejected kids. Their stories are heartbreaking, and we need to focus on how we can help them.

The only thing I don't like about this article is how it offers sympathy to the parents. I completely disagree that we should give any kind of a pass to parents who emotionally and physically reject their children. These parents are horrid abusers. I don't care that they have to "choose" between their faith and their child. There is no question what the choice should be. You don't fucking kick your kid out of your home or treat them like shit for any reasons, full stop. No sympathy for these parents. No sympathy for abusers. Ever.
